Early Papuan Gulf Bullroarer - New Guinea 1960's This well carved bullroarer was collected by Peter J Eddowes in the Papuan Gulf of New Guinea. Peter worked in PNG from 1961 onwards and was the Officer in Charge of Wood Utilisation and Marketing at the Papua New Guinea Forest Products Research Centre from 1965-1981. During this time he amassed a substantial of Gulf art. This piece is skillfully carved from hardwood and has two pleasing faces depicted and lime infill overall. The reverse is concave and has been adze and treated by fire. It measures 74cm x 11.5cm. Attached is an image of Peter in New Guinea.
